Keeping up to date is not always easy. One benefit of belonging to the AIA (American Institute of Architects) is that it requires you to continue to learn about the profession. Yesterday I was at an all day seminar learning some of the latest design techniques - specifically wood design.
Last year I attended a Living Building Challenge Seminar about sustainable building goals that have a net zero energy and water usage -- far exceeding any the highest LEED standards. At the time it seemed too ambitious for anything but a small demonstration project, but yesterday I saw a presentation on a six story office building in Seattle using the Living Building Challenge. Yes it still is a demonstration project, but it shows us the future. See the website for the building here.
Can't wait to incorporate ideas I've learned. LM
